You rebalance your 401k every year. When did you last rebalance your body?
Corporate professionals rebalance their 401k every year without fail.
So here is an uncomfortable question: when did you last rebalance your body?
I spent 16 years on Wall Street. Nobody there leaves an account untouched for 20 years. Why? Because it drifts and stops matching the life it is meant to fund.
Bodies drift the same way, just quieter. What carried you through your 30s slowly stops being what matters most.
Today I want to show you what changes decade by decade, the tests that matter in each one, and how to find your actual starting point so every fix stays small.
Unfortunately, the annual checkup is not catching the drift
You have been showing up. Annual physical, standard bloodwork, "everything looks normal," see you next year.
Here is why that has not protected you:
One snapshot a year, read in isolation, with no baseline of your own to compare against
Ranges built around "normal for your age," which quietly lowers the bar every decade
A system built to catch disease, not dysfunction, and nobody flags the drift between "nothing is wrong" and actually feeling good
That gap is exactly why I test my clients differently: functional ranges, your own baseline, and a panel matched to the decade you are in.
Because each decade has its own assignment. Here is the rebalancing, decade by decade.

Your 30s: build the base
Strength, sleep, and stress recovery, banked while they are still cheap
After 30 you lose roughly 3-5% of your muscle every decade, unless something asks it to stay
The testing: this is the decade to test while you feel fine, because a baseline is worth the most before anything hurts. What I build with clients here:
A nutrigenetic test, done once and used for the rest of your life. It shows which of your body's systems will need extra support as the decades progress
A gut panel and food sensitivity analysis, to confirm you actually absorb what you eat because the muscle you are building this decade depends on it
Your 40s: protect the compounding
Muscle gets harder to keep. Recovery stops being automatic
Stress shows up in your minerals and blood sugar long before it shows up in your symptoms
The testing: mineral testing moves to the front of the line. By your 40s, years of stress, and for women often pregnancies on top of it, have quietly drained the reserves you run on. Alongside it:
Functional bloodwork, read against optimal ranges, with special attention to thyroid, blood sugar markers, and lipids
A full hormone panel: adrenals, cortisol, and sex hormones, so you know exactly what needs support before the drift becomes a diagnosis
Everything you catch in this decade is still a small fix
Your 50s: defend the downside
Bone, balance, and hormones move to the front of the line. Strength training stops being about performance and becomes insurance for your independence
This is the decade cognitive habits compound. Movement, sleep, blood sugar, and connection are what protect your brain
The testing:
A body composition scan, to see exactly where your training focus needs to be
Functional bloodwork, annually from here on
A full hormone panel
Mineral testing, so the nutrients that support bone, muscle, and energy are actually in stock
Your 60s and beyond: preserve and enjoy
Keep lifting. This is the decade weight training matters most, and it is never too late to start
Your brain moves to the top of the list: movement, sleep, steady blood sugar, and learning new things are what keep it sharp
Loneliness is a physical risk, not just a sad one. Protect your people! Relationships do as much for this decade as anything in a capsule
The testing: add a bone density scan and a brain function assessment, and keep watching your hormones. All three quietly decide how independent you stay.
Two things never change, whatever your decade
The basics
Sleep, movement, real food, daylight, connection
Every decade's plan is built on top of these. Nothing replaces them
The numbers
"I feel fine" and "everything is fine" drift apart slowly, then all at once
You cannot fix what you have never measured
And I am not looking for normal function in my clients. I am looking for optimal. Those are two very different targets, one looks for a diagnosis, the other looks for optimization
Where corporate professionals get caught
The managing directors, attorneys, and founders I work with rebalance their portfolios every year without fail. Most have not rebalanced their body since their 20s.
So the first thing we do together is simple: establish the real starting point.
Functional bloodwork, read against optimal ranges, not "normal for your age"
A mineral analysis for what stress has been quietly draining
Gut and hormone panels matched to your decade
Then a plan sized to your numbers, so every fix stays small and the next retest has something honest to compare against
From there, rebalancing stops being a vague resolution and becomes a short list with dates on it.
The bottom line
You are not behind. You are in a decade, and it has an assignment.
The portfolio gets reviewed every year because drift is expensive. Your body has been drifting on the same schedule, and it funds everything else.
Which decade are you in, and when did you last take a real baseline? Hit reply and tell me. If the honest answer is "never," say so, building that baseline is exactly the work I do with clients, and I will point you to the right next step.
